A Taste of History: Bateman's Brewery Comes to Cleethorpes CLEETHORPES — Beer enthusiasts in Cleethorpes were treated to a delightful evening of ale and heritage on Monday, November 24th, as Stuart Bateman, Managing Director of the renowned Bateman’s Brewery, hosted a "Meet the Brewer" night at the Wetherspoon Coliseum pub.

Starting at 7:00 PM, the event offered patrons a unique opportunity to sample a selection of the brewery's famous beers while gaining an insightful look into the four-generation family business.

A Journey Through Time Stuart Bateman, a fourth-generation custodian of the Wainfleet-based brewery, captivated the crowd by recounting the extensive history of Bateman’s, which was founded by his great-grandparents, George and Susannah Bateman, in 1874. He spoke of the brewery's origins, from supplying thirsty farm workers to its growth over the decades, enduring challenges like wartime restrictions and an attempt to sell the company in the 1980s, which the family fought hard to overcome to maintain its fiercely guarded independence. Sampling the Good Honest Ales Beyond the fascinating historical talk, the highlight for many was the chance to taste various beers from the Bateman’s stable. Attendees were able to sample different styles, offering a true appreciation for the quality and traditional methods that underpin the company's motto of "Good Honest Ales." The evening was a resounding success, offering a perfect blend of education and enjoyment. The palpable sense of connection between the brewer and the beer lovers made for a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. “Everyone had a great night,” commented one attendee, highlighting the general positive sentiment of the evening.
